Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. (WTDC) has certainly figured out a thing or two behind the science of making quality whiskey, but what does it take to make alcohol beyond Earth?
That’s the question author Chris Carberry seeks to answer in his book, ‘Alcohol in Space: Past Present and Future.’
A Family Event
Soon, Whiskey Thief Distilling and Carberry will partner for a special event spotlighting the book and documentary of the same name.
On October 26, Whiskey Thief will host a free event at its Franklin County location where Carberry will chat with guests and sign copies of his book, as well as a streaming of the Alcohol in Space documentary.

The event runs 5pm-8pm on Saturday, Oct. 26 and features other space-related activities, such as a virtual Q&A with an astronaut and the opportunity for a star-and-planet gazing led by students and faculty from the Morehead State University Space Science Center.
“I’m excited to talk about the passionate beverage producers who hope to manufacture their products in space,” said Carberry. “Over the next couple of decades, thousands of ordinary people will be vacationing in space, or living and working in space, or exploring deep space. All of them will want to bring some of the basic creature comforts of home.”
In addition, Whiskey Thief tours, tastings, and bottling will be available to those who are 21+.
“We throw a party every day at Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. – the October 26 event will be out of this world. I am thrilled to bring this unique, one-of-a-kind event to WTDC on Three Boys Farm in the Bluegrass.,” said WTDC Chief Operating Officer Jeff Markowitz.
A percentage of proceeds from Alcohol in Space will benefit Higher Orbits.
Higher Orbits is a non-profit with the mission of promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math; along with leadership, teamwork, and communication through the use of spaceflight.
The event is free, however securing tickets in advance is encouraged.
Whiskey Thief tours and tastings are $35 and do not require reservations.
