One of Louisville’s most popular restaurants is facing a major setback in their operations that had the potential to keep their lights off for an extended time.
However, thanks to the power of social media and an outpouring of love from the community, there is hope on the horizon for this favorite local spot.
Exhaust System Failure
Chik’n & Mi, an Asian-inspired restaurant located between the Clifton and Butchertown neighborhoods, recently shared the news that their kitchen exhaust system catastrophically failed.
Despite some temporary fixes, the system continued to fail forcing the restaurant to close and cancel an entire weekend of reservations.
The owners shared that the system failure comes on the heels of an extremely hot summer that hurt sales and adds to the financial burden the restaurant has been carrying since the pandemic.
The restaurant, which first opened in 2017, is known for its chicken and ramen dishes and has seen high praise over the years.
Personally, I’ve eaten at Chik’n & Mi numerous times and the meals are delicious every time.
Adding to that, their staff are incredibly kind and seeing this restaurant permanently close would be a major loss to the community.
Every Donation Helps
In a effort to raise funds, the owners of the restaurant started a GoFundMe with the goal of raising $40,000.
The money will be used to replace the kitchen exhaust system, cover the cost of bills and food and to provide for the restaurant’s staff.
At the time of writing this, the restaurant has seen more than 300 donations and raised just over $20,000 toward it’s goal.
“If you’re able to help, we ask that you please donate, share our campaign, or consider purchasing a gift card for the future,” said Jason McCollum and Aenith Sananikone-McCollum, owners of Chik’n & Mi. “Every gesture, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to surviving this crisis. With your help, we believe we can overcome this. From the depths of our hearts, thank you for standing with us when we need it most.”
