This Gorgeous 1790’s Estate Will Be Your New Favorite Luxury Rental

It’s not easy renovating a house, especially a historic house that’s more than 230 years old and in poor condition.

“There were holes in the roof, lots of mold, it was very evident there were years of neglect,” said Annette Vitale, Owner of Mallard Hall.

But all it takes is a vision, and Vitale certainly had a vision when she purchased the property and began what would be a years long renovation project.

It took three years and (I would imagine) an immense amount of patience, but today Mallard Hall has been beautifully restored blending the charm of the historic estate with the best of contemporary living.

About The Estate

Original ownership is attributed to John Hume, who is said to have built the home around 1790.

In 1934, records indicate that Lawrence B. Bischof purchased the home and maintained ownership until its eventual nomination and listing on the National Historic Registry in the 1970’s where it became known as the Hume-Bischof house.

Over the years, the estate changed hands several times. In 1980, the property was purchased by the Greenburg family before eventually being sold in 1997.

After ‘97, the home fell into a state of disrepair and remained vacant for more than 10 years.

A New Chapter

In 2020, Vitale purchased the estate and began the process of renovating the property top to bottom.

Today, the 12,000+ square-foot estate boasts 8 bedrooms, 11 baths and sleeps up to 18 people. Let’s take a journey through the property.

Upon entry to Mallard Hall you are captivated by a grand staircase that is flanked by a parlor and a formal dining room.

The main floor consists on a parlor, formal dining room, great room, chef’s kitchen, mud room, entertainment room and multiple guest bedrooms.

The second floor consists of the primary bedroom (which features a massive bathroom and closet which dreams are made of), multiple guest bedrooms and a separate, private living space.

The estate features heated floors throughout each bathroom and the indoor entertainment area.

The basement features a kitchen/bar, lounge area and (what I think is the best feature of the estate) a speakeasy style room.

The exterior features 10 gated acres, a stocked fishing pond, an outdoor kitchen, and a heated saltwater pool and spa.

“The estate lends itself to a variety of different uses, from weekend getaways to large events, from wedding receptions to Derby parties,” said Vitale. “I love it here! I have such a good feeling here and I am so grateful for my family and friends who helped bring Mallard Hall to life.”
